Kenozero National Park Authority and its associated partners invite all artists and landscape architects to participate in an international drawing contest of sketches of art-objects for an open-air exposition Landscape Theatre “Northern Equator”.

Kenozero National Park Authority and its associated partners invite all artists and landscape architects to participate in an international drawing contest of sketches of art-objects for an open-air exposition Landscape Theatre “Northern Equator”.
The creation of a «Landscape Theatre» is an integral part of a unique international festival «KenArt - European cultural bridge» to be held from 10 to 17 of July 2010 on the territory of the Kenozero National Park located in the eastern part of Archangelsk region in European Russia. The leading idea of the festival is to provide space for a celebration of the wealth and diversity of culture and art of the Kenozero area by bringing together local and international artists, art designers, musicians, masters in handicrafts, experts in cultural revival and restoration from Russia and the rest of Europe. They will participate in two architectural art exhibitions: “Wooden Jerusalem” and Landscape Theatre “Northern Equator”.
In contrast to the first exhibition focusing more on religious objects produced by local artists, the later one is envisioned as an unusual platform allowing various artists to present their generic work in the beautiful scenery of the national park (displayed near hiking trails), so that art and nature can merge in a harmonious blend and contribute to a more complete and accurate perception and contemplation of natural and cultural environment. The main hero of the Theatre is a landscape. To make this venture a great success, the festival organizers open a special contest in which any artist or landscape architect can send sketches and drawings of objects of contemporary art and architecture they imagine to create in the spectacular landscape of Kenozero. The actual objects and installations can be then made from various materials; however the preference is given to natural ones such as wood, metal, textiles, clay, etc. A jury will evaluate all the submitted sketches and the authors of the best works will be invited to Kenozero to build the actual Landscape Theatre “Northern Equator”.
For selected artists the organizers provide accommodation in the tourist lodge in the picturesque village of Maselga, meals, transfers from the railway station Nyandoma to the place of accommodation and back, all materials to create art installations (by prior arrangement).

Please send all the requested documents before May 1, 2009.
Schedule of the contest

  • 1 June, 2009 - the winners of the contest will be announced on the official site of Kenozero National Park, and all participants will be notified.

The Programme is currently working on over 250 projects in Russia and is the largest EU Cooperation Programme in the NIS. Equal numbers of Russian and European experts participate in the Programme. Over 1700 projects, worth approximately EUR 2.6 billion, have been successfully implemented since 1991.
